In Michigan
I have found a very good fireplace company which I like very much. If you would
like to give me a call on my 800 209-9992 number I will send them your name and
phone number and they can call you. Thanks.
There are so many things to go over in the fireplace issue's that
it is very difficult to piece it together for you. Let me sectionalize it for you,
and break it down the best way I can here.
You need to determine whether you want a prefab or a natural
fireplace with firebrick on the interior.
a. When you have a natural
fireplace, you have to put in a
foundation for it. This means if you are having a basement, you need to
spend an additional $300 or more and put in extra concrete in the foundation.
If you are on a crawl space you will still need a foundation to support it.
We have built many natural fireplace's with the firebrick and the solid
brick chase. But the cost of these can be pretty high.
We estimate
there is at least an additional cost of $3,500 to $5,000 to build
the fireplace in brick.
Many of the pre-fab fireplaces the builders put in are not
upgraded fireplaces. You need to put in an insulated pre-fab fireplace at the very
least. When we install a prefab fireplace
we will normally spend around $1600 or so.
This will include an extra large box (42"), plus it will be extra high and
extra deep. If you are not careful, some people will sell you a pre-fab fireplace
and it will hardly hold a log. Be careful. You are much better off to
spend a lot of quality time with the right fireplace experts. I have been around
this business a long time and my experience with finding the correct fireplace companies
has been very exasperating to say the least. I do not mean to be so negative on this
point but you need to know what you are purchasing and who you are purchasing it from.
During the rough framing of the
house determine if you want a raised hearth with brick around it, or
whether you want it flush to the floor with marble or tile surround.
There are many choices that you need to make.
Build your rough framing
correct in the first place.
Make an appointment with a good fireplace company before you dig your basement. There are questions your basement
company will have which will require you to have correct fireplace information.
I go over these items in my 2 1/2 hour video & book.
