HEATING

The picture above is a temporary furnace.  What we do is heat the house with our furnaces until after drywall and then we install the new furnaces. It is a tremendous advantage to the new home owner as there is no damage to the new furnace from debris dust & drywall dust.  I have heard from the heating people that a new furnace can lose up to 25% of its lifetime usefulness through the construction process if used through drywall.

Many people do not know the importance of heating.  Some communities demand an engineered heat plan from a certified heat specialist.  I personally like the idea as you will most often end up with a more efficient system than if you just pick the location out of spacious needs and or desires.  The less distance you send the heat the more efficient the system is.  Be careful here and don't just listen to whatever your heat people want to do.  Sometimes contractors will do things because its easier and more profitable for them to do it the easy way.

I use a high efficiency 90% plus furnace.  They have improved tremendously in the last few years.  One of the big advantages of this type of furnace is you do not have to run a stack through the roof from the basement.  You just vent it outside, through an exterior wall.  The venting can only run so far though, so don't think you can just put it anywhere.  I generally figure my customers will have their upgrade money back within 3 to 5 years.  The upgrade cost is not as expensive as you might think.

I have used Quality Aire  for 3 years now.  They basically do Custom Homes and spend more than an adequate amount of time helping you figure out the proper heating system for your house.

Many of our houses exceed 3500 sq. ft., so we normally use 2 furnaces, 2 air conditioners, 2 air cleaners and 2 humidifiers.  Our heating company gives us electronic thermostats as standard.

Its the same story in this trade as in the others.  Watch what your purchasing, and make sure you get qualified recommendations.

The pictures below are a boiler hot water system to heat the concrete floor in the basement.  The second picture is with everything finished off. This heating system run us around $10,000.
